Morning Has Broken, A New Day Has Dawned

Cat Stevens couldn’t have sung it any better in 1971 than when he released Morning Has Broken.  What a beautiful song – a tribute to God and one of his many gifts to us – nature.

If you listen to the lyrics, you’ll know Cat is singing praise for a new morning, a new day.  I am always thankful to wake up to a brand new day.

At 5:45 in the morning with latte in hand, I went outside to have coffee with God.  I sat on my favorite bench while it was still dark outside.  As I chatted with Him about life and prayed for so many in need, morning started to break.

It was still dark, I could see the outline of a cat walking across my driveway.  But wait – the tail was too fluffy, it was a raccoon! Then right behind him followed a smaller one, then another and one more!  Four raccoons all in a line (momma with 3 little ones), scurried across the driveway heading for their den in my backyard.  My day was just beginning, but they were “calling it a day”.  A few minutes later I saw the first bird come out for his breakfast, it was a robin…he was truly the “early bird” catching the worm.  Ten minutes later, other birds emerged for their morning meal.

How blessed I was to be able to celebrate this new day with God and his creatures.  I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, you can’t buy this kind of entertainment – it reminded me of that old saying:  The best things in life are free.

Whenever I see the darkness give in to the first crack of dawn, a calming comes over me with overwhelming thankfulness that I am here once again to celebrate the new day ahead.  Daily troubles don’t seem so harsh when I’m sitting out there watching a new day form.  For better or for worse, it’s MY new day and I plan on seizing it at warp speed.

What better way to start off your day than with a cup of coffee and a chat with God in a quiet place in your home or outdoors.  Whether it be on your balcony, patio or somewhere in your home, find a special spot to put a positive note on your day ahead and keep God by your side.
