From The Vinyl Gym: Summertime Oldies – Part 1

Summer is officially here! Enjoy these “summer flavored” blasts from the past, evoking simpler times.

We recently had 3 losses in our great rock/pop world in a short period of time. This included Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys. Their songs still scream “fun in the sun” after all these years! The Beach Boys Medley features 8 of their songs, released as a single in ‘81, well after their heyday and it still climbed the Billboard Charts!

We also lost Sly Stone of Sly and the Family Stone. Breaking barriers, this San Francisco group was noted for “psychedelic soul.” Sly and the Family Stone performed at Woodstock in 1969. Throughout his career, Sly worked with many artists, including George Clinton.

Rick Derringer, the lead singer/guitarist of the McCoys (Hang On Sloopy), scored his biggest solo hit in 1974, Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo. It’s a just plain fun, danceable, rockin’ tune that still stands the test of time.

We will miss them all and you’ll see their music on our Hot Summer Oldies list. Give these summer-infused oldies your own personal workout! Watch them on YouTube or load them into your favorite listening devices.

SUMMER IS HERE! It’s time for Fun Fun Fun in the sun with these classics that exude sun, beach, dancing, romancing, cruisin, surfing – and even cocktails!
