A Daily Dose of Thankfulness
We’re smack in the middle of the beautiful fall season. The trees fill our eyes with their kaleidoscope of vivid colors. The fresh, crisp air wakes up our senses. It is a glorious time of year. Halloween is over and Christmas is on the horizon. BUT WAIT…
Thanksgiving falls between those two holidays and is often overshadowed by both of them… and that’s just messed up! Thanksgiving is the holiday to celebrate everything we have to be thankful for: friends, family, a roof over our head, food on our table, loving spouses and/or pets and so much more.
Each one of us has blessings from our past, present and those in our future. The number of blessings we each have had and have yet to receive, defies a number – defies calculation. Blessings come in every shape and form – in every size from small to large. If you are reading this post on your computer, think about all those people who can’t afford a computer, internet, cell phone, etc. These things we tend to take for granted, yet they are blessings to be thankful for.
Be thankful if you can afford a gourmet cup of coffee at the local coffee shop. Even if money is tight, be thankful if you have a job – be thankful that whatever your struggles may be, you are getting through them with God’s help.
Daily prayers and one-on-one personal chats with God are quiet ways to guarantee peace of mind and guidance as you steer your way through life’s winding, and many times, bumpy roads. Each and every one of us, whether it be during good times or even bad times, has so much to be thankful for.
It’s never too early to begin celebrating the Thanksgiving season. Let friends and family know how important they are to you. Consider going “old school”: pick up a Thanksgiving or thank-you card. Mail it to a friend, family member or someone that really helped you out when you needed it the most. Add a personal note to let that person know you are thinking about them and how much they mean to you. Slap on that “real” stamp” and drop it in the mail box.
Be thankful that God has blessed all of us with complete strangers who have made our lives easier, better or maybe even saved us! Perhaps doctors, nurses and others in the medical field helped you conquer serious health issues – perhaps a firefighter or the police had to come to your aid or that of a family member or friend. Perhaps your veterinarian saved your pet’s life.
And always be thankful for our military – for all those who have served and continue to serve our country, sacrificing themselves to protect our freedom.
Yes, there is so MUCH for each of us to be thankful for – so take this month to really celebrate and be extra thankful during this very special time of year. Don’t let Thanksgiving get lost between the Halloween and Christmas Season.
Every day you wake up is a gift from God. And that is the best reason to have a daily dose of thankfulness.
