God, Serenity, Courage, Wisdom
In times of distress or hardship, the four most important words of the Serenity Prayer come to mind: God, Serenity, Courage and Wisdom. For those of you who are not familiar with this prayer, it dates back to the 1930’s/40’s and is credited to a German-American theologist, Reinhold Niebuhr. It is a short, but powerful message that can help us keep on track in spite of whatever life throws our way.
And let’s be realistic, the world has withstood some monumental havoc in recent years, still presenting us with all kinds of challenges even today.
I have a paperweight inscribed with the prayer prominently displayed where I can see it on a daily basis. It has been a great comfort to me when things go really south. It’s also a reminder of the importance of “letting go,” “making positive changes,” and “moving on.”
Study the words – it’s a potent message that is more appropriate than ever. You can probably find various items featuring this prayer online – or simply type up a copy and frame it. Keep it close by and let it give you strength when things weigh heavily on your mind.
The Serenity Prayer
GOD, grant me the SERENITY to accept the things I cannot change.
COURAGE to change the things I can, and
WISDOM to know the difference.
Let us take a moment to really count our blessings. Counting all our blessings, no matter how large or small, will put our troubles in perspective – it’s all about balance.
