Crazy for Crescents!

Keep a couple tubes of your favorite plain crescent rolls handy, and you can create some quick snacks, appetizers (for those unexpected guests – or yourself), a pastry for coffee or tea or mini snack or lunch sandwiches.

These are all Free-Style recipes, meaning these are base recipes, but easy for you to swap out ingredients or add more or less depending on your own personal taste.

Follow the instructions on the crescent tubes (in store’s refrigerator section), place EACH SECTION of the dough on a cookie sheet per the instructions. Jazz up EACH individual crescent by adding a few simple ingredients per the recipes below, then ROLL UP each of the crescents and bake per instructions

DON’T get carried away with going heavy on the ingredients, otherwise they will be hard to roll up and dough will not bake properly.  Each crescent should have MINIMAL amounts of each ingredient.

EXAMPLES: When you add torn cheese slices, one slice of cheese should cover (4) crescents.  If adding deli meat, half a slice per each crescent.  These recipes are on the “lighter” side — they are NOT meant to be hearty stuffed pastries.

HOT TUNA CRESCENTS:

Spread dough with a THIN layer of your favorite tuna salad. Optional: add torn cheddar cheeses slices.

PIZZA CRESCENTS:

Spread the dough with a THIN layer of pizza sauce, marinara or your favorite red pasta sauce. Add a THIN layer of torn mozzarella cheese slices. Optional:  pepperoni (2 per each crescent)

SWEET CRESCENTS:

Spread each crescent with a THIN layer of cream cheese and a THIN layer of your favorite preserves such as blackberry, strawberry or orange marmalade.

MINI TURKEY , HAM OR CHICKEN CRESCENTS:

Spread each crescent with a THIN layer of mayo or mustard (OR NO mayo or mustard, you decide). Add a hefty tablespoon of leftover shredded rotisserie chicken, ham or turkey and add torn slices of your favorite cheese such as cheddar, Munster or provolone. NOTE: You can also use approx. half a slice of deli meat instead of leftover meat.

CHOCOLATE CRESCENTS:

Lightly press chocolate chips into each crescent before rolling them up.

CHEESY DIPPING CRESCENTS:

Spread dough with torn up slices of mozzarella cheese. When crescents are done baking, serve with a cup or bowl of warm marina sauce or your favorite red pasta sauce for dipping. Kids will love this!

BREAKFAST CRESCENTS:

Roll up (1) PRE-COOKED sausage link into each crescent dough section, bake as directed. Goes great with scrambled eggs.

Fillings for crescent tube dough and other pre-made dough are, frankly, endless! Use your imagination, creativity and perhaps even get rid of a few leftovers when you come up with your own recipes!
