God’s Lantern: Shining Bright This Christmas Season

There’s always something special about the Christmas season. Just about everything around us temporarily changes – sometimes quietly, sometimes rapidly. Oh those holiday Sales! Oh the push for planning a full blown Christmas Dinner! Oh finding the perfect gift! Oh the kids anxiously awaiting the arrival of Santa!

But one thing that never changes is the true meaning of Christmas – the reason we celebrate — the birth of baby Jesus. No hymn (in my opinion) can tell the story better than Away in a Manger. This timeless succinct story, set to beautiful music, is a reminder of why this season is so special.

No matter what is going on in your personal life, be it good or bad – now IS the time to put all things aside and celebrate your faith and beliefs.

It’s easy to lose focus with all the hustle and bustle that the holidays bring. It’s extra important as we celebrate, to remember the importance of “peace on Earth and good will.” And this isn’t just for the holiday season. Peace on Earth and good will should be 24/7, not just this one time of year.

Christmas truly is special. It’s a happy time with positive vibes in the air, a reminder of God’s special gift to us – a gift that was lovingly placed in a manger. Time to put things aside and truly let ourselves be overwhelmed by the holiday spirit. Be thankful. Be joyful.

And don’t forget to set aside some extra special quality time to have personal one-on-one prayers with God. Prayers of thankfulness for this holiday season and the new year that is soon to arrive. Prayers for peace, prayers for others in need, prayers for yourself.

As always, God is listening – God is watching – we are never alone. God’s Lantern is always shining to help us stay on the right path. Its eternal flame can never be extinguished.

Be extra vigilant during the holiday season. Focus on your blessings both great and small and know that you are here, right now, all because of God’s master plan to save us all. God’s Lantern was shining extra bright on Christmas Eve: No hospital, no doctors or nurses – instead, a cold stable and a make-shift crib in Bethlehem – away in a manger baby Jesus slept peacefully.

Rejoice! Celebrate! Amid all the festive gatherings and holiday fare, keep the true meaning of Christmas always in your heart.

Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year 2026!
