Death Scene by Carol J. Perry
Author Carol J. Perry was born in Salem on Halloween Eve. How appropriate that she brings us her enchanting Witch City Mysteries putting her hometown on the cozy mystery map!
In Death Scene (the newest in this series) Halloween is coming up fast in Salem! In addition to all the local shops and restaurants preparing to celebrate this special holiday, Paragon Productions movie company just arrived to shoot a witchcraft-themed movie, Night Magic.
Lee Barrett Mondello is the program director and part-time reporter for WICH TV. She’s surprised when her boss, Bruce Doan, wants her to produce a program documenting the making of the movie about witches while the film crew is in town.
Lee doesn’t waste any time setting up interviews for her new assignment. Darla Diamond and Lamont Faraday play passionate lovers, with rumors that they aren’t just “acting” their parts. But when one of them is murdered, Lee goes into full reporter mode to cover the story – and as a reporter, you know she’s going to do a lot of digging!
Lee also has an ace in the hole – her police detective husband, Pete. As in the past, sharing their info can be a real plus when it comes to unmasking a cold-blooded killer. But this case isn’t going to be an easy one to solve. It also isn’t easy for the movie producer to finish the movie with one of the two leads taking an eternal nap!
But as they say: the show must go on! So it does! And as Lee becomes more involved with the movie folks and the crime, she learns that the movie is already way over the budget. In fact, much to her dismay, her own boss is heavily invested in the movie! In addition to their financial woes, Paragon Productions has also been plagued by serious accidents in the past – too many to be “just” accidents. Did someone “off” one of the leads to put the final nail in Night Magic’s coffin?
Bitter employees, including one of the stars and a ringer body double of the deceased, make up a valid suspect list. In Death Scene, Carol J. Perry gives us a bewitching mystery filled with colorful characters with subtle psychic powers – after all, this IS Salem we’re talking about!
With the fall chill just around the corner, grab a cup of hot apple cider (with or without a nip of rum) and perhaps a bowl of popcorn along with Carol J. Perry’s Death Scene. It’s a delightful and downright bewitching cozy mystery sure to get you into the Halloween spirit!
