God’s Raindrops
Rainy days – some folks love them, some folks hate them. But here’s something to ponder no matter where you stand on the matter.
I never minded a rainy day, except, of course, when I had a dreadful work commute (especially on a Monday morning). The slightest bit of rain can cause total chaos on our nation’s highways. But over the years, I started looking at rain quite differently.
When rain or snow is approaching, the air has a distinct smell – you can feel that something is coming. It’s God’s way of giving us a “heads up” that the weather is about to change. Ever notice how fresh and clean the air smells after a good hard rain – even in the stifling summer months? If you think about it, that clean smell actually wakes up our senses – it’s invigorating. Pollen, debris and other “not too good” smells get washed away – everything is “fresh” once again.
Stand outside after a good hard rain and take a deep breath – drink in the glorious air that has been wiped clean. Smell the power, the newness and the reset of the day. It’s a wonder of nature that so often goes unnoticed.
When it rains, it’s God’s way of cleansing and renewing. Everything needs water to survive – not just people, but plants and animals. When it rains the earth gets replenished.
If you are fortunate enough to be able to stay at home on a rainy day, take a few moments to pause and reflect on all the benefits the rain is bringing. Maybe sip on a cup of tea or enjoy a hot cup of coffee while you look out the window and ponder the beauty of the rain, even on the dreariest of days. It’s also a great time to reflect on all of God’s wonders and be thankful for all His blessings: past, present and future.
Let your rainy days become days of peace and tranquility. Let them clear you mind and awaken your senses to all the wonders of this world. While things may seem grim when you listen to the news, there are still many positive stories and events shaping our world that we can be thankful for. Make a rainy day an easy day of relaxing and renewing. Enjoy a quiet book – watch a mindless movie or TV show – contemplate – relax — refresh your own senses as the rain refreshes the world around you.
And if you’re caught in a rainstorm or stuck in traffic brought on by the rain, it won’t be fun, but try to remember the positive side – God’s raindrops are life-giving for us, vegetation, the animals, the planet.
Next time it rains, don’t despair. It’s God’s way of cleansing and renewing. God’s Raindrops: A wonder of nature and a gift from God.
