It’s a Beautiful Morning
In 1968 The Rascal sang it best: It’s a beautiful morning, I think I’ll go outside a while… An just smile…
You may be thinking – huh? What’s there to smile about? The coronavirus has knocked the wind out of our sails, changed our life-style to the new “social-distancing,” the market is more up and down than a Duncan Yo Yo, folks are facing financial hardships and hospitals are flooded with patients.
Yes, it’s true – this virus is a bad dude who’s perpetually turning our lives upside down. But this is yet another challenge, another one of life’s “I didn’t see this coming” obstacles to test our faith and beliefs.
Most folks will suffer hardships throughout their lives – loss of loved ones, financial woes, etc. — there’s just no two ways about it. The difference is, this time, we are all enduring this hardship together. And while some days it may be hard to wrap your mind around the whole thing, remember, this, too, shall pass.
Some good may have actually come out of this chaos. Folks are spending more time staying home. If you’re a working parent, you’ve probably complained that you don’t have enough time to spend with your kids. Well, this IS your golden opportunity to re-connect with your family – spend “quality” time with you kids, grandkids or spouse before you go back to work or the children go back to school.
It’s also a good time for each of us to take a “step back” and re-evaluate our life. What have you learned about yourself, others and the world around you? There are lessons here to draw strength from for the future, to make us all better individuals in the long run. Time to re-visit your ideas and goals – this crisis won’t last forever. And when this is all over you can jump back in the saddle with a fresh start, a new beginning, a new POSITIVE attitude.
Our lives may have been pulled back abruptly – our normal routines stymied. But the skies will still break blue, the sun will shine and there will be plenty of beautiful mornings. Re-visit the lyrics to the Rascals song and fill yourself with their positive vibes: …. Just take in some clean fresh air, boy… Ain’t no sense in stayin’ inside, if the weather’s fine and you got the time … it’s a chance to wake up and plan another brand new day…
With spring here, maybe it’s the perfect time to take a leisurely stroll through the neighborhood. Maybe find a special bench or place outside (or inside) to say a prayer for the future of our country and those struggling around the world with this pandemic.
Let God fill you with faith and hope. This is a reminder that He is always there standing right by our side. Through the darkness, His ray of light shines – yes, in spite of everything, it is still a beautiful morning. Enjoy it, relish it – and keep the faith!
