Good Stuff: Prayers, Books, Music
At times life can become crazy-busy or hectic. Sometimes downright stressful. When things get to be too much for whatever the reason, there are 3 things you can always turn to — 3 easy and inexpensive things that can help you stay calm, change your attitude (for the better) or help bring you peace of mind.
I’m talking about prayers, books and music. No one should ever underestimate the power of prayer. In times of trouble, God is always there – and He is listening. Daily prayers can help you stay positive and help keep you on the right path. Prayer can ease your burdens by reminding you that you are never alone. Even in the best of times, daily prayers are important. They allow us to keep our deep connection with God.
And books? The obvious ultimate book, of course, is the Bible. Quietly reading passages can give you strength, persistence and hope.
And more books: There are millions of books out there on every subject. Maybe you enjoy worldwide traveling via a good book about an area or country you are interested in. Maybe you want a lighthearted or romantic tale of fiction or non-fiction just to take your mind off of things.
Perhaps a do-it-yourself or self-help book can enlighten you with a new hobby or ways to improve your life if you are struggling. There may be times when you may want a total escape – away from reality. Perhaps a good cozy mystery to enjoy with a spot of tea, while snuggled up in your favorite chair. How about a diabolical thriller to captivate you and keep you on the edge of your seat? A good book will keep you fixated, occupied and give you a break from the hustle and bustle of every day life. A good book can take you away and drop you into a different time and different place – and sometimes that’s exactly what we all need!
And music? Whether it be hymns from the past, gospel music, country music, rock, classical or just plain easy listening pop – music has the ability to immediately boost your mood. And the good news is, now more than ever, there are plenty of ways to listen to music and load them into your favorite listening devices. You can even watch music videos and groups perform on YouTube. Upbeat music can have you dancing in your living room – or singing and dancing while doing painfully boring chores.
All 3 of these things – prayers, books and music – are readily available to everyone. All 3 have the capability of making a positive impact on your life. All 3 can have calming effects. All 3 can be instant mood enhancers. All of them can help you take a crappy day and make it better or take an average day and make it stellar. Prayers, books and music, without a doubt, are all timeless.
