God’s Lantern: An Eternal Flame

Sunny summer days are slipping slowly into fall. Folks are gearing up for pumpkin lattes – apple cider – seasonal vegetables, etc. The air is starting to feel crisper, the days just a little bit shorter – but it’s ALL good!

On these glorious days it’s such a wonderful feeling – a feeling that it’s great just to be alive! What a blessing the change of seasons can bring! With each new season comes a welcomed renewal and should never be taken for granted.

Let us all take pause to reflect on the wonders of these days and appreciate not only our immediate surroundings, but friends, family, pets, loved ones, etc. It’s also easy to forget about other folks who add so much to our lives, but hardly ever get acknowledged. How about the folks that deliver your newspaper, pick up your trash or empty your recycle bin?

I think of them often. In my neighborhood, they are always the first to give you a wave or a morning greeting. They show up in all kinds of horrific weather, yet they keep a positive attitude. I try to go out of my way to thank them for doing a great job. It is always met with deep appreciation and probably makes their day. I can’t imagine how hard it would be if I had to drag my trash or recyclables to a local trash center. The morning would not be the same without my newspaper waiting outside my door.

It’s easy for all of us to forget about basic stuff like this and the people who make it possible. Just a few other examples: that special doctor who finally was able to figure out and fix your ongoing ailment. That waiter or waitress that made sure your dining experience was perfect, that neighbor that helped you out during an emergency. The list could go on and on – but if you think about it, I’m sure you can come up with plenty of more blessings and reasons to be thankful.

And with all the daily blessings around us, sometimes those dark clouds still find their way into our lives, canceling out our beautiful and peaceful days. But have no fear. God’s Lantern shines bright 24/7 – during the darkness and the light. It can’t be extinguished. It’s eternal.

Enjoy the changing of the seasons. Let God’s Lantern guide you through the good days and bad days – it will always keep you on the right path and never leave you in darkness.
