Death at a Scottish Halloween by Lucy Connelly

Death at a Scottish Halloween(1)

Lucy Connelly, the author of the clever Scottish Isle Mystery series, gives us a most festive Halloween treat: Death at a Scottish Halloween. Her unique series features Dr. Emilia McRoy, a newcomer from the States who re-located to Sea Isle, Scotland.

When Dr. McRoy moved to Scotland she thought she’d become the new local doctor – but there was a very unexpected hitch – when you’re the local doctor, you are also the town’s medical examiner (this is what happens when you don’t “fine print” in your contract)!

As if that wasn’t enough of a jolt to her new life-style, she also finds herself becoming a super sleuth, aiding handsome Constable Ewan when it comes to solving local murders!

It’s the Halloween season at Sea Isle and everyone is participating in the festivities. While Halloween is noted for being the “spooky” season, this year it’s downright terrifying. Emilia and her assistant, Abigail, discover a “real” dead body in the haunted house – and it’s straight up murder.

Constable Ewan and his men team up with Emilia – the victim is identified, but no clues are left behind to determine a motive nor the killer. But as a few days pass, another murder victim is also discovered — his identity is a total shock!

Now there’s two twisty murder cases to solve – but are they related? Could this be a coincidence since it appears the two men don’t know each other or have anything in common? Two random acts ? Or are the two men somehow connected?

As Emilia and her gang step up their sleuthing game, possible motives surface. A mysterious puzzle box, questionable identities and problems with hot tempered co-workers, all come into play, but the pieces just aren’t fitting together. Family members of both victims come to a startling face-off. Accusations fly – friends and family members of both victims are totally blind-sighted! Are they all as innocent and caring as they appear to be, or is there lying going on to cover up the murders?

With no shortage of suspects, It’s a tough and scary case to crack – and Emilia has really ticked off a killer or killers and they may be coming for her next!

I’ve read several books in Lucy Connelly’s Scottish Isle Mystery series. They are perfect cozy mysteries heavily flavored with authenticity of a small, quaint Scottish town. Death at a Scottish Halloween gives you a solid Halloween mystery and will keep you begging for more of this superior series.
