Concrete Prayers: Your Spiritual Brick and Mortar

Start each morning with thankfulness in your heart, for a new day is about to begin. Maybe it’s a good day – maybe it’s a bad day – maybe just a boring day – or even a “weird” day, but hey, it’s a new day and it’s YOURS!

Your day is important, so as they say “own it!” And every day concrete prayers are in order – those daily prayers are your spiritual brick and mortar – your solid connection to God, one-on-one.

Group prayers are wonderful, too. Sharing prayers with friends or folks from church also help keep us grounded. Group prayers are potent and strong. Everyone is on the same page, praying for the same thing. Groups prayers connect you with others who feel the way you do – and that’s a very good thing!

But back to those one-on-one prayers because they are also truly special. This is “you” – just “you” having a private conversation with God. He is always there – He is always listening. Maybe you need some advice, some help – ask Him and be prepared to listen. God works in subtle ways. Don’t expect a booming answer from the sky or a hefty voice telling you what to do. Pray for answers and guidance and let Him into your heart to receive the answers.

And maybe things are going well. Great! Be thankful. Let Him know. It’s just as important to have that one-on-one prayer to cement your personal bond with Him even if you find yourself not needing any advice or help (at least, not for now).

These days most folks lead a pretty busy life – it’s not unusual even for retired folks to be just as busy as ever. Sometimes it’s hard to make extra time to truly build that spiritual bond of brick and mortar with God. But here’s the thing – try your best – you might even find yourself anxiously looking forward to your quiet one-on-one chats with God.

Private time with God is uplifting and positive. If you have burdens, share them with Him – this can help relieve stress and anxiety. Take time to think, ponder and let Him know what’s on your mind.

Spring is such a beautiful time of year. It’s a perfect time to get outdoors and find yourself a good spot to solidify your prayers. Look around at the budding trees, the flowers just beginning to bloom, the birds busily building and preparing their nests for their new family.

Perhaps you’re lucky enough to enjoy the scent of beautiful flowers such as Lily of the Valley. Or maybe you’re inhaling the clean fresh air brought on by the burst of spring.  Maybe you’ll be in awe of the beautiful blue sky above you.

If you’re home-bound or the weather outside isn’t cooperating, find a quiet place inside your home and lose yourself in deep thought and one-on-one conversation with God.

It doesn’t matter where. It doesn’t matter when. It doesn’t matter what you’re wearing. What does matter: your concrete prayers – spiritual brick and mortar, your personal solid connection with God.
