Vinyl Gym: Oldies of Love & Romance

It doesn’t need to be Valentine’s Day to give these gems from decades gone by a real workout! So many love songs lit up (and continue to light up) the charts! Songs of romance, erotic love songs, sad songs, love gone bad songs, silly love songs and peppy feel-good love songs – so many to choose from!
In 1957 perhaps Mickey & Sylvia said it best with their Billboard hit: Love is Strange, but hopeless romantics will enjoy songs like Close to You by the 70’s duo, the Carpenters or Precious and Few by Climax.
In 1977, songwriter turned singer, Alan O’Day had his one and only lost Billboard hit, Undercover Angel. But O’Day also wrote Helen Reddy’s Angie Baby and the Righteous Brothers Rock and Roll Heaven.
Ronnie Milsap was a country chart success, and in the late 70’s and early 80’s crossed over into the pop charts with 6 Billboard Hits, all sad love songs.
The 80’s fielded plenty of hard rockin’ groups singing some pretty rough songs about love: Bon Jovi had pointed the proverbial finger with: You Give Love A Bad Name and Bad Medicine. Def Leppard wails that Love Bites. Two Abba members spun off love songs of their own: Frida made it clear to her guy: I Know There’s Something Going On, while Agnetha Faltskog proclaimed: Can’t Shake Loose.
So take a leisurely stroll down Memory Lane with these classic blasts from the past. Load them into your favorite listening devices or check them out on YouTube.
