2024: New Year, New Goals
2024 is beating down our doors! It’s pounding, and we’re about to let it in! This is the time of year when most folks look forward to the new year and wiping the slate clean from the year before – especially if the year before was rotten!
A lot of folks are anxious to make their new year’s resolutions. The definition of “resolutions” is a firm decision to do or not to do something. While that’s all well and fine, years ago I decided to not to have “resolutions,” but “goals.” There’s a difference. A goal is something you aim for – something you try to achieve; goals can spur you forward, fill you with new ideas and bring out your creativity. Some goals may take longer than a year to achieve, other goals may never be met. But that’s OK.
Everyone should have goals to work towards. They can be simple – like eating more healthy foods or getting more sleep. Other goals can be complex and more time-consuming. Maybe you want to switch careers, open a business, dabble in new investments or take a trip around the world. Whatever your goals may be, making a new year’s list of your own personal goals will help you focus on them – and keeping focused might make the difference of success or failure.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – studies show that people who write down their goals have a higher success rate of achieving them. So go ahead, grab a pen and paper!
Take some time for yourself as the New Year ramps up. Give some serious thought to goals you want to take on in 2024. The beginning of a new year is the perfect time for the “R’s”: Reflect, Reset, Refresh, Re-Calibrate.
2023 is slinking out of here – let’s jump into 2024 with a positive attitude and let’s “get it done” (whatever it is!).
And while you’re doing all this reflecting, refreshing and making your list of goals, don’t forget to count all those blessings (whether they were big or small) in 2023. Add to your list of goals for 2024, a new goal: putting aside quality time in 2024 to be thankful for friends, family, a decent job, a roof over your head, food on your table and so much more.
As the years blow by, it’s easy to forget about all the blessings we’ve received in the past and even in the present. But be assured, there will be blessings in our future.
Being thankful each and every day is another way to help you stay balanced and focused. 2024 is here – make that list – go for it!
Happy New Year 2024!
