Grab His Hand (& Hang on Tight)
Most of us have seen those “cliffhanger” movies. Someone has slid helplessly down the side of a treacherous cliff or mountain and just as they are about to fall to certain death, a hand reaches down, grabs their wrist, and pulls them to safety.
Each and every one of us certainly has our ups and downs. World events and disasters here in the United States plus coming out of a pandemic can put all of us on edge and make for some truly uncertain times. These and other circumstances that are beyond our control may make us feel like we are in our own private cliffhanger movie – sliding hopelessly down the side of a mountain into a bottomless ravine.
And that’s where He comes in. Look up from your troubles and worries and you’ll see the hand of God reaching down to grab your hand. You need only take His hand and then, most importantly, hang on tight! He is ALWAYS there reaching out to us. He is there for us to lean on – to listen to our most serious problems and to help quell our fears. Whether we ignore the hand that can save us or whether we grab His hand and be strong in our faith, is entirely up to us.
Hanging on to the hand of God will keep us anchored firmly on the ground. Holding onto His hand is a reminder that we are not alone. It’s so easy for us to want to just give up when we’re feeling lost and alone, especially without a resolution to some of life’s toughest problems. But our prayers are listened to every day – 24/7. There are no limitations to how often we pray and ask for help or guidance.
And even in the best of times, prayer is just as important. All our TV commercials tout about “staying connected” with our devices. It’s the same thing with our faith – we need to “stay connected” – connected with God. And the best way to do that is through our prayers. If your life is going well, let Him know and thank Him. If times are tough, tell Him your problems and let Him quietly give you guidance. If you’re thankful just to be on this planet another day, let Him know!
Every day I wake up and am thankful to see yet another sunrise. While there are times when my plate may be overflowing, I know it is temporary. I go out to my favorite garden bench and have my chats with God. These “chats” are revitalizing and uplifting– they re-affirm that I am never alone.
Reach for the hand of God and hang on tight. When you take His hand there will always be hope. There will always be guidance. But through the toughest of times, we may have to grab His hand a little tighter.
Let the hand of God pull you up the side of the cliff to safety.
