From the Vinyl Gym: Oldies Rock!

Great music “never” goes out of style! These blasts from the past are Oldies that will have you rockin’ out! As the old saying goes: “They sure don’t make ‘em like they used to” and here’s the proof – these oldies still stand the test of time!

Hard hitting soul – that was Ruth Brown. Born in 1928 in Portsmouth, Virginia, she rose to fame as Atlantic Records top selling artist of the 50’s! In later years she had acting roles on TV shows, on Broadway, in Las Vegas musicals and even appeared in several films! Now that’s talent!

Cherilyn LaPierre worked as a backup singer for Phil Spector. Later in 1963, she became part of the duo known as Caesar & Cleo. In 1963 she also married Sonny Bono, hence the duo Sonny & Cher was eventually born topping the charts in 1965 through the early 70’s. Now still on her game, she is simply known as: Cher!

Let’s All Chant is still good stuff if you wanna get into the “disco vibe.” This lost hit was also featured in the 1978 thriller, The Eyes of Laura Mars starring the stunning Faye Dunaway and tough guy Tommy Lee Jones. The movie’s Love Theme, Prisoner, was hauntingly sung by the legendary Barbra Streisand. There were a lot of great songs on this soundtrack from the 70’s and worth checking out!

The 80’s had everyone rocking out to Pat Benetar – she not only hit us with her best shot, but here we are in 2024 and she’s STILL “Invincible!” Her catalog of hits can still rock your world!

Multi-talented Sheila E.: singer and percussionist, was, and still IS, extraordinary! In 1984 she gave us all A Glamorous Life, AND the high-energy catchy: The Belle of St. Mark . A year later she kept right on rocking with  A Love Bizarre from the film “Krush Groove” with backing vocals by Prince.
