From the Oldies Vault: Love Is In The Air

Love is in the air and it just doesn’t matter whether you love your spouse, a special friend, a family member, your pets – or even yourself! Celebrate love and life and take a step back into the oldies vault of songs from decades past, featuring “love happy” and romantic songs.

There will never be another decade like the 50’s where those smooth, harmonious groups like the Platters, Drifters and Flamingos filled the airwaves. The 60’s brought us beautiful romantic songs like Love by one-hit wonder group, Mercy and the Carpenters endearing Close To You. But the 60’s and 70’s also slammed us all with some downright, happy “pop” love songs. Grand Funk’s Some Kind of Wonderful had a love-happy vibe that was hard to get out of our heads. Marvin & Kim reminded us in their peppy pitch, that It Takes Two, while another one hit wonder, The Mojo Men, told us: Sit Down, I Think I Love You. Enter the Partridge Family with their hit show and infectious song: I Think I Love You.

The Los Angeles group, Bread, hit home run after home run with their 70’s love songs. Still standing the test of time: If, Make It With You, Sweet Surrender and Baby-I’m-A-Want You. In 1968 Kenny Rogers checked in with the First Edition and Just Dropped In (to see what condition his condition was in). Some of his most popular love songs were: She Believes In Me, Lady (penned by Lionel Richie), and We’ve Got Tonight (with Sheena Easton). Rogers’ career melded pop and country, spanning from 1968 through the 90’s – now that’s “staying power!”
