Cold Storage by Michael C. Grumley

Winter weather brings on the “thrill of the chill” and Michael C. Grumley gives us a chilling thriller of the not-too-distant future. The year: 2046.

Cold Storage is the follow up to the first book in his Revival Series, Deep Freeze. In his second book, we find Army veteran, John Reiff, at the heart of this gripping science-fiction techno tale.

Reiff was the victim of a bus crash, plunging him into a frozen icy river. When he wakes up, he finds himself in a bizarre clinic – a secret lab with a special “machine.” Reiff has become a human experiment in cryogenics. He has successfully been re-animated!

The problem for Reiff is that years have passed. The world as he knew it no longer existed. The government literally collapsed. What’s left of it is corrupt and in shambles. Pandemics. Cyber wars. Offshoot rebels, anti-government groups and secret new groups are the norm.

The Network is a group of vets and ex-military flying under the radar. They are anti-corruption and pro-freedom — patriots covertly working to undermine the country’s dysfunctional government. In other words: the good guys. On the opposite end is John Kincaid, the head of “The Nine,” a secret group with an agenda filled with power and greed.

John Reiff is on the run, aided by former associates of Kincaid and The Network. The Nine want him and desperately need him. To them he’s a lab rat gone rogue and needs to be re-captured and studied – The Nine’s existence depends on Reiff. The Nine is close to achieving what has never been done before – immortality. They will stop at absolutely nothing to achieve their goal.

This riveting thriller has you following a futuristic game of cat and mouse. This book is a slow burn as Grumley fits all the intricate pieces together. It’s good vs. evil in this whip smart thriller that will cause readers to “blink, pause and digest” this story before the full effect hits them in the end. It’s an icy cold “WOW” factor that makes this series so unique and memorable.

While Cold Storage can certainly stand on its own, I highly recommend that fans of Michael C. Grumley and those who love sci-fi techno thrillers or just a good thriller, grab BOTH Deep Freeze (lst in the series) and Cold Storage.

Filled with jolting twists, Cold Storage reminds us that greed and power are universal and have no limitations. It’s a perfect winter read enjoyed with a cup of hot coffee or hot chocolate in hand – you’ll need it to take the “chill” off! I’m hooked on Grumley’s Revival Series novels and think you will be too!
