Valentine’s Day Ideas For You or Someone Special

**In1965 Jackie DeShannon sang, What the World Needs Now is Love – and Feb. 14th is the traditional day for “love and romance.”

Whether you have someone special or not, there’s still reason to celebrate.  If you are alone for Valentine’s Day, treat YOURSELF special.  Consider getting carryout from your favorite restaurant (don’t skip on bringing home a decadent dessert), and curling up with a good book like Killing Cupid (a cozy mystery by funny lady Laura Levine), take in a movie or watch a favorite on DVD .

Start your day with a gourmet coffee concoction at your local coffee shop instead of brewing your usual morning coffee.  Then perhaps a trip to your local bakery is in order for some Valentine cupcakes or cookies to have with your tea or coffee.   Maybe take a shopping trip to the local mall or outlets to buy yourself something fabulous (or at least fun) — there should be lots of good sales and clearances since winter is winding down!  Maybe you should do ALL of the above!

Spending it with someone special?  Chocolates and flowers are always the rage, but if you want to give something different, how about a box of gourmet biscotti for coffee and tea lovers and attach a gift card to the local gourmet coffee shop (and don’t forget the bow).

If your friend is into music or reading, pick up a book they would enjoy.  Are they rockers?  How about a gift subscription to Rolling Stone Magazine?  Concert tickets?

Do they like jigsaw puzzles (there are Valentine themed jigsaw puzzles in stores and online) or brain game activity books?  Bundle a few together with a nice red or pink ribbon and bow or present them in a festive gift bag.

Schedule a future weekend getaway at the beach, mountains or a special bed and breakfast.  Give your love interest a Valentine Card with a gift certificate and/or brochure on the weekend getaway location. Together pick the date that works best for both of you.  If you’re in the North Carolina area, check out the Bell Clemmons House (bed and breakfast) review under my “Style Category.”

If you enjoy the outdoors, consider a stroll through your local park or nature center, with a special lunch or brunch afterwards.  How about a local winery tour?

The bottom line:  Make this Valentine’s Day special by spoiling yourself or someone else.
