New Year 2022: A Year of “R’s”

2021 was far from perfect. In fact, it was another heinous extension of 2020, one the of strangest and most challenging years we’ve ever faced. Here we are with another year upon us and things still don’t “look right.”

Time to relish kicking out 2021 and ushering in 2022 with a brand new attitude. While 2022 may not be off to the best start, we’ve got to give it a chance. If nothing else, ‘20 and ‘21 have made us stronger, more resilient, more aware of the world around us and how things can change in the blink of an eye.

2022 is filled with plenty of “R’s”. It’s time to re-calibrate, resolve, revive, realign and re-adjust. Now is the perfect time to sit back and focus on the future. It’s also a good time to make a list of positive goals for 2022. They can be anything from finding a better job to getting that new roof put on your house (that you’ve put off way too long). Set high goals and low goals. It’s not about achieving them all, it’s about having a game plan to make 2022 a better year….remember, you are in control.

Studies show people who write down their goals as opposed to those who keep them in their head, have a much higher chance of achieving them. There’s something about putting your goals on paper (or computer) that makes you more serious about them, perhaps even making them more attainable.

2021 was a year of whiplash and being blind-sighted. But 2022 doesn’t have to be that way. Patti Labelle sang it best in 1985 when she belted out: “I’m feeling good from my head to my shoes, know where I’m going and I know what to do, I’ve tidied up my point of view, I’ve got a new attitude.”

Time to let go of 2021 and move on to 2022. Only YOU can make your 2022 a more solid new year. It’s time for an attitude adjustment – and you’ve got this! Changing one’s mindset is never easy – but with a little determination and spunk, it’s totally doable. 2022 is a fresh start, a time to re-calibrate our lives for the better. Fill your new year with plenty of goals and fresh ideas, then begin working towards them.

Be thankful for that roof over your head, that food on your table and for family and friends. Count your blessings both great and small. Then ring in 2022 not with the negativity of the pandemic and world around us, but with hope for a better, more productive year. Attitude is everything. Hit your re-set button and remember those positive words from Timbuk 3’s 1986 song: The Future’s So Bright, I’ve Got to Wear Shades.

So go get yourself some swell designer shades to go along with that new attitude – and bring on 2022!
