Gift Ideas for Nature Lovers

There’s plenty of good stuff out there for the nature lover on your gift list.  Find your local wild bird store or go online for a treasure trove of gifts.

FOR BIRD AND NATURE LOVERS:

SEED BALLS:   Especially this time of year, seeds balls for birds comes in all shapes and sizes (stars, wreaths, round balls, etc).  For your friends that love bird watching, all they need to do is hang seed balls near their window so they can enjoy their feathered visitors.  It’s also a great gift for the birds, especially during winters up North!

BIRDHOUSES:  There are many terrific birdhouses out there, but my favorite brand is HB (Home Bazaar). They are made from safe, sustainable wood and can be found online and sometimes in stores.

BOOKS:  Pick up a book on backyard bird watching or on how to attract birds and butterflies to your garden.  Audubon books make also fabulous gifts and come in all sizes, including coffee table size.

BIRD CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS:  Put various bird ornaments together as a nicely boxed set (i.e, cardinal, blue jay, robin, etc).

SMALL TABLETOP TREE:  Decorate a very small tabletop tree and fill it with bird, butterfly and wildlife ornaments (deer, bear, fox, raccoon, squirrel, etc.).  In fact, they can be so dog gone cute, you may want one for yourself!

FOR FRIENDS WHO LIVE NEAR PONDS/CREEKS:  Consider a frog house.  All types of designs are available online.  Some are just downright cute, some are artsy, some are plain – but all provide a safe haven for frogs.

BUTTERFLY HOUSE:  Made especially for butterflies.  Find them in stores or online.

FOR GARDENERS:

GARDEN DECOR (such as stepping stones or small garden statues) can pep up any garden.

GIFT BAG or STOCKING filled with items like: gardener’s gloves, gardener’s soap and hand cream, a pocket guide to flowers, bug repellent, garden spade (one can never have too many).  Tip:  Garden spades with a brightly colored handles won’t get lost as easily in the garden as those with green or brown handles!

SECTIONAL PLANTER to grow a cascading assortment of flowers or herbs.

SOLAR STAKE LIGHTS with decorative finials.  These give a fancy touch in the garden by day, and a subtle glow at night.

BOOKS ON GARDENING:  There are scores of gardening books available for all types of gardeners.  For friends who love to grow herbs, there’s even books on herb gardening (beginning and advanced).

LIVE POTTED ROSEMARY PLANT:  Add some small ornaments and give it a festive look.

LAVENDER is known for its soothing, calming properties.  Fill a gift bag, stocking or box items of all things lavender:  soaps, lotions, bubble baths, sachets.  There are plenty of lavender soaps you can choose from. Yardley’s English Lavender Soaps have been around forever and smell just as wonderful as much more expensive specialty soaps.  Find Yardley at local drugstores and retailers.
