Fudge Bites by Nancy Coco
What’s not to love about Nancy Coco’s delightfully endearing Fudge Bites, A Candy-Coated Mystery? It’s a perfect fall read to cozy up with during the spooky season of Halloween. You’ve got the wonderful setting of Mackinac Island, a snoopy puppy, a wily calico cat and Allie McMurphy, owner of the McMurphy Hotel and Fudge Shop — all the ingredients for a perfect cozy.
It’s the end of October, off-season for tourists, but everyone in town is gearing up for the annual zombie walk and charitable event.
Allie, meanwhile, is busy filling fudge orders and hiring a crew do some hotel renovations. But things go awry when Allie’s inquisitive cat, Mella, finds a zombie sprawled out in a back alley – and this is one zombie that isn’t one of the living dead – he’s just plain “dead!”
Allie’s already got a reputation on the island for being an amateur sleuth. Seems her pets have noses for sniffing out trouble (as in finding those pesky dead bodies), thus getting her tangled up in solving some of the island’s most despicable crimes. She’s also enlisting help from the good folks at the senior center. Apparently the senior center has a gossip vine so powerful and fast, that it would make Rona Barrett and Hedda Hopper envious! This sure comes in handy when you’re trying to solve a murder!
But as the victim’s mom begs Allie to help find her son’s killer, Allie soon realizes that this may be a case of mistaken identity. Further investigation also leads her to an illicit affair, an urban legend of missing treasure, and some downright unsavory locals.
It’s an explosive cozy (and I mean that literally), loaded with lots of colorful characters, including a group of feisty seniors. Ms. Coco also tosses in a tug-of-war romance between Allie’s and her two male rivals.
So if you want some Halloween treats, without the calories, then cozy up with Nancy Coco’s Fudge Bites. Want some calories? For those with a sweet tooth, she’s got that covered too with her easy fudge recipes scattered throughout the book. Fudge Bites is not a trick, but a real treat! Don’t miss out on this fun and entertaining cozy from Kensington Publishing!
