With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, it’s time to step into the sugary sweet vault of “Love Happy” Oldies.  Unlike a box of chocolate, these delicious memories of decades gone by, won’t add a single calorie to your diet!

Smooth 50’s crooners like Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra turned young women into a pile of mush.  Martin’s velvety laid back attitude swore that when the moon met the sky like a big pizza pie, That’s Amore.  And Sinatra assured all of us that Love and Marriage, do indeed, go together like a horse and carriage.  While many crooners hit the airwaves and TV shows in the 50’s and 60’s, none were more successful and had more finesse than Rat Packers, Martin & Sinatra.

Elvis enters the league of Billboard #1 hits in March ’56 and he’s staying at the Heartbreak Hotel. In the 50’s he wanted to be your cute and cuddly Teddy Bear.  In the 60’s he wanted to be your Good Luck Charm.  In the ’70’s he became a hunk-a-hunk of Burning Love.   Never lacking with his own personal hip grinding swagger – Elvis churned out some of the sweetest and most romantic love songs from the mid-50’s through the late 70’s.

Groups like the Del Vikings came with their own brand of totally infectious songs.  Today, their Come Go With Me can still make you snap your fingers and hit you with that giddy puppy-love feeling.  In 1965  singer/songwriter Eddie Rambeau gave us his version of Concrete and Clay.  Currently a resident in my Seeburg jukebox, there’s just something about this record that keeps my feet dancing and shoulders swaying to its calypso-style, happy vibe.

Lost 1969 hit: Mind, Body And Soul by the Flaming Ember remains one of my personal favorites. The Flaming Ember sang it with such gusto and conviction that it still wrecks me.   Westbound #9 and I’m Not My Brothers Keeper charted in 1970 before their embers burned out.

So many happy love songs from days gone by!  Follow me into the oldies vault for more upbeat, fun tunes from our past.  Check out the list below and view your favorites on YouTube or load them onto your favorite devices.
