Celebrate the Season – It’s Christmas!
You can smell it in the air – Christmas is here and the New Year is just a blink of a snowflake away. The holidays awaken our senses with the joy and wonder of the season.
On Christmas Eve parents make sure there’s a full plate of cookies and milk just for Santa. They nudge their children “off to bed” so when they wake up, they will find a treasure trove of gifts. It’s truly an exciting time for both young and old.
But in spite of the excitement and all the hustle and bustle, there is no better year than this very year, to set some time aside to ponder the true meaning of Christmas. Sit back and be thankful for the birth of our savior, Jesus Christ. Maybe even listen to some of our beautiful Christmas hymns that tell the “real” story of Christmas without any commercialism.
Our old-time Christmas hymns reflect seasonal glad tidings and are chapters in the story of the birth of Baby Jesus and the celebration that follows. Away In A Manger starts the story. It Came Upon A Midnight Clear adds strength and depth to the lowly manger scene with its subtle reminder of His birth. We Three Kings adds to the story as the 3 Wise Men begin their long journey to visit the Christ child, bearing gifts. O’Come All Ye Faithful invites all of us who believe, to come and adore Him. Joy To The World links His birth with everyone, everywhere.
Whether you’re alone or spending time with friends and family over the holidays, celebrate His birth in your own special way. And here’s the thing: when you wake up Christmas morning, you’ll have a gift waiting for YOU. It wont’ be wrapped in festive bows and ribbons – it won’t be edible or wearable – in fact, it’s downright hard to even see!
But every year on Christmas day we are “gifted” with the celebration of Christmas, the reminder that Jesus Christ was born to save us all. What better gift can there be? I can think of no other.
This holiday season as you open your gifts under the tree from friends and family and perhaps pounce upon a holiday feast, be grateful for the gift that was given to us so many years ago – Baby Jesus – a precious gift from God to us.
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
