A Perfect Southern Style Getaway

“Come and sit a spell”…

From the moment I stepped through the door of the Bell Clemmons House Bed and Breakfast in Southport, NC, those words immediately came to mind.   It was just so darn charming and quaint – an instant cozy home away from home feeling that wrapped itself around me and pulled me in.

Built during the Civil War and renovated in 2004, this bed and breakfast just oozes with Southern charm, just like its owner, Bev Holm.  Its 3 porches, beautiful living room and outdoor patio all beg you to “come and sit a spell.”  Each of the 3 guest rooms is uniquely furnished with vintage finds and features cottage style décor.  Each room has its own full bath, TV, wifi and a warm, snuggly feeling.  In other words, it’s a perfect getaway!

Whether you’re looking for a romantic weekend, or just need some time by yourself, this is a perfect place.  Since there are only 3 guest rooms, you never feel crowded.  In fact, the only time I saw any guests during my stay was at Bev’s casual and delicious breakfast.

At Bell Clemmons House, not only are the rooms pristine clean, but Bev has made sure her B and B has plenty of extra touches.  Outside of the bedrooms is a small room housing a coffeemaker with plenty of individual brews to choose from, tea bags, a bowl of snacks and a dorm size fridge stocked with bottled water and sodas.

Southport (approx. 40 minutes from Wilmington, NC) is a beautiful seaside town.  Once you park your car at the Bell Clemmons House, you’ll find plenty of trendy shops, artsy stores and contemporary and vintage shopping within walking distance.

I had the most fabulous lobster bisque and artichoke dip at a local restaurant for dinner, then retreated to my room to curl up for the rest evening with a good mystery.

My room was perfect!  The mattress and bed linens were so incredibly comfy, I just melted away into a blissful sleep.  At the crack of dawn, I tossed my robe over my leopard PJs and headed to the hospitality room a few yards away to grab my coffee.  Then I slipped out onto the second floor porch outside my room and just savored the fresh morning air….not a care in the world!

Staying at Bell Clemmons House was a relaxing and carefree experience.  For those of you born in the late 50’s or 60’s, you may remember the phrase “the hostess with the mostess” – meaning “the PERFECT hostess” – and Bev is spot-on!  She’s totally respectful of your wishes, and goes out of her way to make you feel right at home.

Do you need a break or know someone that needs a break?  Then a getaway trip to the Bell Clemmons B & B may be the solution.  It’s a perfect retreat for yourself to catch up on reading, relaxing or clearing your head.  It can also be a special treat for you and a spouse or friend.

For the holiday season, birthdays, anniversaries or for other occasions, gift certificates are available…give the gift of “memories” to someone you love.

I really enjoyed my getaway stay at Bell Clemmons and I think you will, too.  My only regret is that I couldn’t stay longer!  THANKS BEV, FOR A REALLY WONDERFUL STAY!

Rates will vary depending on the season, but ANY season is a great time to visit!  Take a TOUR and reserve your room on Bev’s website:  bell-clemmons.com  or call 910-477-6242.
