At 5:45 a.m. The moon is still bright, but the morning light is slowly pushing its way through the darkness to bring us this Blessed new day.
This Easter morning the birds seem to be out extra early – I hear their chirping and feel an invigorating breeze filtering through the air. Daffodils and hyacinths abound, and the lilac tree is bursting with its delicate violet flowers and their calming scent.
The store shelves are brimming with all kinds of seasonal, festive flowers, including the Easter lily. How beautiful they are! The Easter lily has come to symbolize purity, virtue, innocence, hope and life. This plant with its magnificent white trumpet shaped flowers is the spiritual essence of Easter.
Lilies were found growing in the garden after the crucifixion. It has been said that they sprung up from the ground where drops of Christ’s sweat fell to the ground as He suffered for us on the cross.
Jesus Christ made the ultimate sacrifice for us so our sins would be forgiven and we could have everlasting life. Easter is truly a celebration of His life and ours. It is a time for rebirth, renewal and new beginnings.
No matter how you choose to spend this special day, take some time reflect on the true meaning of Easter. Refresh your soul, mind and body. It’s a brand new day – so much to be thankful for.
One of my favorite hymns of the Easter season dates back to 1739 – it really says it all:
Christ the Lord is Risen Today – ALLELUIA!
