As the holidays kick-off in full swing, there’s a lot of yakking about turkey dinners, pumpkin pie and all sorts of side dishes. For many, a food marathon is in order. But our traditional Thanksgiving buffet goes way beyond the luscious and intoxicating food (and football). Our real buffet is never-ending.
Our buffet from God isn’t just about what’s on our table on Thanksgiving Day. It’s about the buffet of blessings that He’s provided for us all year ‘round. While thank Him for our wonderful Thanksgiving dinner with good friends, family and delicious calorie laden food, let us not forget to thank Him for everything He has given us 24/7.
Every morning when I wake up, I thank Him for letting me have this new day. Not everyone will get a new day, so it’s important to be grateful. Be it good or bad, it’s a brand new day, and I’m just so very thankful to be HERE – period!
Many of you may remember the old-time hymn from the late 1800’s: Count Your Blessings. It was an appropriate song back then and is still appropriate now.
The verse that always sticks in my head is “Count your blessings, name them one by one – count your blessings, see what God has done!” The entire song is a wonderful message of hope and it reminds us to be thankful not just during the holidays, but every day: “Count your many blessings, every doubt will fly, and you will keep singing as the days go by.”
Need some hope or inspiration? Then Google the entire song. Beautifully written with stellar lyrics, this is a perfect reminder of all the countless blessings God has placed on our Thanksgiving buffet table.
Whether you are spending Thanksgiving alone or with friends, let us be grateful for all our blessings both great and small. When you feast on the buffet table, compliments of God, you will never go hungry.
