Buried in Buttercream – A Savannah Reid Mystery by G. A. McKevett posted 10/10
One thing I love about cozy mysteries is the fact that there are so many terrific ones out there and all of them have unique characters. I always get excited when I discover another new character that hooks me. It would be quite a bore if they were all stereo-typed!
Buried in Buttercream is my first encounter with the voluptuous, plus size P.I., Savannah Reid. Apparently this series has been around for more than 20 years and I’m jumping way ahead in this series since this one came out in 2012. But no matter, it’s thoroughly enjoyable and stands on its own.
Savannah is an outspoken, feisty woman with a family of zany relatives invading her home while they wait (yet again) for her to finally get hitched! The relatives are a hoot — a colorful cast of down-home characters indeed!
Apparently Ms. Reid is trying to tie the knot with Dirk Coulter, her police dept. honey. Seems like Savannah and Dirk just can’t catch a break to do the marriage gig. So many obstacles standing in their way, poor Savannah and Dirk are beginning to wonder if they were really meant to be together.
If it isn’t one thing, it’s another — like the local arsonist who torched the building on the day she and Dirk were supposed to get married. And oops, her wedding gown was in the building too. But the icing on the proverbial wedding cake, was on her special day when Savannah finds her wedding planner, face down – dead in a pool of floating rose petals!
There’s a lot of cutesy romance going on, so if you’re in the mood for a cozy mystery with plenty of lovey dovey romance, you’ll want to check this one out!
